Archaeological Collections

The Ministry of Multiculturalism and Citizenship has designated us as a repository for archaeological collections found in Waterloo Region. These collections contain cultural belongings from both Indigenous and Euro-Canadian sites.

Archaeological collections transferred to us are regulated by the Ministry of Multiculturalism and Citizenship. We do not accept archaeological items from private individuals.

The archaeological collections are stored in the Waterloo Region Curatorial Centre, a climate-controlled and secure building. We aim to improve accessibility to archaeological discoveries found locally, and to work closely with archaeological licensees to reduce their long-term provincial obligations.

We also seek to develop cooperative partnerships with Indigenous communities and other descendant communities regarding the archaeological collections we steward.

Please contact the Archaeological Stewardship Coordinator with any archaeology-related questions.
