Donate an Artifact or Archival Material
The Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives collects artifacts and archival materials that were made in or have a strong history of use in Waterloo Region. We are interested in different time periods, cultural associations, and even acquire modern items.
All items offered for donation will be assessed for:
-
Uniqueness – items should not duplicate what is already in our collection;
-
Relevance – should have supporting documentation such as a history of ownership, information about the manufacturer/business/individual, and show a strong connection to Waterloo Region;
-
Physical condition – objects in poor condition or with missing pieces will not be accepted.
Please note that if an item is outside of our ability to safely store, preserve, and provide access to it long-term, we will decline the donation offer.
If you have an object (clothing, furniture, tools) you would like us to consider for donation to our collections, please contact our Collections Coordinator and Registrar.
Please contact our Archives Coordinator if you have archival materials (photographs, maps, paper documents) you would like us to consider for donation to our collections.
The Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives does not offer financial appraisals or evaluations of objects to the public. If you are interested in an appraisal, please contact a member of the Art Dealers Association of Canada, the Canadian Antique Dealers Association, or the National Archival Appraisal Board to find an appropriate private dealer, consultant, auctioneer, and/or appraiser.
