Collections and Research
The Region of Waterloo Museums & Archives aim to collect, preserve, and share the social, industrial, and cultural heritage of Waterloo Region.
We collect historical and contemporary artifacts and archival materials that are unique to Waterloo Region, the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo, and the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot, and Woolwich. We work collaboratively with other local institutions to ensure that items are donated to the most appropriate place.
The Region of Waterloo Museums & Archives’ collections are great resources for researchers, historians, and students. Strengths of our collections include Germanic/Mennonite folk art and traditions, the industrial heritage of Waterloo Region, life in the late 1800s to early 1900s, and government records related to the Region of Waterloo. We also have a non-circulating library that features books on the history of Waterloo Region, life in the 19th and 20th centuries, and antiques and collectibles. The library books are available for public use by appointment only.
If you are interested in conducting research, please email us at archives@regionofwaterloo.ca to discuss the details of your research and to make an appointment to access the collections and/or library.
