Disheveling! An Extraordinhairy Exhibition

On exhibit until May 10, 2026 at Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum

Discover an extraordin-hairy side of nature!

Whether you have brown hair, blond hair, salt and pepper hair – or even if you are bald, you will be challenged by this scientific exhibit that deals not only with human hair and animal fur, but also with plants’ hair!

Did you know, the fur of animals is adapted to their environment? Certain species have evolved extravagant coiffures and designs worthy of the world’s greatest designers. Among plants, those in arid environments are the hairiest.

Surprises and discoveries await you at every turn … hair of every kind, hair not like any other, from human hair to hair across the world. Experts in hair will be part of the exhibit to explain hair’s utility in criminology, and environment protection.

Don't miss the chance to:

  • See and touch a wide variety of pelts,
  • Find out the breed of dog that most resembles you,
  • Have fun playing in the grooming salon,
  • Explore a wide variety of hairs and discover their origins, functions, and anatomical characteristics,
  • Try out different hairstyles through various hairy headpieces, and
  • Discover how laboratory hair analysis can help identity its source.

It’s enough to make the hairs on your arm stand to attention and give you goosebumps as well!

A production of the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science with the contribution of Heritage Canada and the collaboration of Télé-Québec.
