Save the date: Doon Heritage Village grand reopening on July 1
Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo is pleased to invite the community back to Doon Heritage Village, with a grand reopening on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The “Back to the Village” event will feature returning favourites like costumed interpreters, farm animals, and historic games, as well as music, food, and entertainment for everyone. For one day only, the Village will charge a historic admission of $2 per person.
In 2023, Doon Heritage Village temporarily closed to the public to undertake infrastructure improvements and community engagement. Doon Heritage Village is reopening for the season with expanded storytelling, enhanced accessibility features, a refreshed brand and exciting updates and surprises for visitors.
“Doon Heritage Village is a beloved landmark in our community, and we cannot wait to welcome residents back,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “Many thanks to those that contributed their experiences and suggestions to inform our new storytelling plan. As our community changes, so must the services we offer. Doon Heritage Village is a place that reflects the voices of our community, and where everyone can see their history reflected.”
The Back to the Village event will feature musical performances throughout the day from Errol Blackwood and Injah Band, Jesse T, and The Vaudevillians. Visitors can also enjoy lessons with Guys N’ Dolls Square Dancing, face painting by Busy Bee Face Painting, and more. Hot dogs will be available for purchase as well as snacks from Hazel’s snack bar.
Doon Heritage Village is open for the season seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting July 1 until September 6. Visitors can explore the historic buildings and interact with costumed staff interpreters. Select farm animals will be located throughout the site.
